TSA PreCheck Touchless ID Is Making Airport Security Even Faster

If you've ever stood in a long airport security line digging through your wallet for a driver's license while trying to balance your boarding pass and carry-on luggage, there's good news. The Transportation Security Administration has introduced TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, a new feature designed to make the airport experience even quicker for eligible travelers.

Think of it as the next evolution of TSA PreCheck.

Instead of handing your ID to a TSA officer, travelers enrolled in Touchless ID simply step up to a camera. The system compares a live image of your face with the passport information already associated with your TSA PreCheck account. If everything matches, you're on your way through security in just a few seconds. No fumbling for documents and no handing over your identification. The technology is entirely optional and uses facial recognition only to verify your identity at the checkpoint. Images are deleted after verification and are not used for surveillance or law enforcement purposes, according to the TSA.

Not everyone can use Touchless ID just yet. You'll need an active TSA PreCheck membership, a valid passport, and you'll have to be flying with a participating airline. Enrollment is simple: add your Known Traveler Number and passport information to your airline profile, then opt in during your reservation or at check-in. Once you've done that, just look for the dedicated Touchless ID lane at participating airports.

The program continues to expand across the country, with more than 60 airports now offering the service, including Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Travelers passing through CLE can already take advantage of the faster screening process if they meet the eligibility requirements.

One important thing to remember: even though you may not need to show your physical ID during screening, you should still carry a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or another acceptable form of identification. TSA officers can still request to see it if necessary.

For frequent travelers, every minute counts. TSA PreCheck already saves valuable time, and Touchless ID removes one more step from the process. It's a small change, but one that makes traveling feel just a little more seamless. As more airlines and airports adopt the technology, don't be surprised if showing your driver's license at airport security eventually becomes the exception rather than the rule.
